Saturday Paint Table 14: Out with the old, in with the new

A new year, a new blog post! And a completely new load of figures on my desk! I finished the French platoon, all varnished and now waiting to get flocked. The perfect job for tomorrow...

While ending my French project I had already started on the first couple of German troops and now I have cleaned up the rest of them (the few that I still had cents for to base them on). So I'll get them done together with the tracks of that Zvezda Pz38t to get a flying start for a BA German platoon later on. The guns are a bunch of Soviet infantry guns by PSC that had been abandoned after a basecoat many months ago. They are now waiting for the final coat of varnish, just a quick thing that I got out of the way.
For a slight change of pace I'll be moving away from 15mm WW2 after that and get Scooby and the gang done. They have been standing around in a basecoat since right after I bought them at Crisis (2014 I think, and hope). The other small project I want to cross of my list are the Terminator Genisys endoskeletons. I bought a box of plastic ones at Crisis last year and together with the two blisters of special weapons/"characters", so that would be 13 figures (and 4 crawlers) in total. Another limited and manageable force.
Just imagine, completing two forces only months after buying them at Crisis??? Surely the End Times must be upon us :-)

Happy painting and gaming!!!
See you next week...

Paint Table Saturday 12: the Early Bird Edition

Well well, aren't I spoiling you? Another paint table post, on a Saturday no less... and earlier than ever. Ok, I had to get this out now or be late because I'll be off on a family visit in a bit so that's the day done for. So I did a little quick spot of painting, snapped a few pics before I have to move out.

Still working on my Peter Pig French and I got to a pretty surprising point earlier in the week. All models were on the table now with at least the basic flesh and uniform (or basecoat for the vehicles). Did I really go from picking up a new force at Crisis to have everything based and out of bare metal to work in progress in a month time???

Now I'm even contemplating being able to finish, yes, FINISH, this project within the "1 figure average per day" limit with the count starting at Crisis. I have until the 29th to pull that off. And being at the webbing and weapons stage now and my year's end vacation starting this Tuesday evening... it's definitely on the table (pun intended).

Happy painting and gaming!

Paint Table Saturday 2

Back again after only one week??? Didn't really expect that myself...
Just one little problem with that, how to keep you guys entertained with my glacial pace of progress. Really, go google for a webcam observing a real life glacier if you want to see some fast paced action :-)

I did finish a few things that were stuck on the table for a while now, the GHQ M3 scout cars are now done as are the 15mm FoW Russians. The two objective markers are also completed so for this week the unpainted pile goes down by 11 items while going up by 8 for new arrivals from my Barbarossa project, meaning I'm at -3 for the week (only thanks to Heroics and Ross making a packing error on my order).

Trying to keep the table empty and staying focused
For the coming week: get stuck in to the Barbarossa Germans, get rid of those Kuebelwagens and get Scooby done (maybe Shaggy too)

Happy painting and gaming and till next time!

Paint Table Saturday

Welcome to the first of what will most likely be a highly irregular view of my paint table... Yet another testament to my ongoing OSPD (Ooh Shiny Personality Disorder).

Rather than continueing and (heaven forbid) finishing the handful of GHQ vehicles and 15 mm FoW that were on my table before Crisis came along two weeks ago, I had to drop everything and dive into the new toys... Good thing I didn't buy all that much for once :-)

So two weeks later nothing happened with the GHQ and FoW but I nearly finished constructing the 16 plastic vehicles I picked up at the bring and buy... Once the schwimwagens and the StuG IIIB are finished all that is left is the 251/10. And then I can return to painting, something that I have hardly gotten to in the past two weeks.
Pretty much all I did on that front was starting on Scooby and the gang, slapping some Panzergrau on a few vehicles and work on a couple of objective bases for FoW that I made with some drums and cans that were included with one of those plastic kits.

Till next week time (that looks more realistic)

Happy gaming and painting!!!

On the painting table

As I predicted a few weeks ago, painting would slow done significantly after last month's bmper harvest. With all the other gaming related activities (and real life) taking up most of my time I have hardly touched my brushes and have finished only three figures so far. And that was more because they were figures that I had meant to finish in January. The little bit of time I did spend painting were used on my Space Marines and my Russians for Blitzkrieg Commander.

After I built up my infantry forces I decided to focus on my vehicles. I cleaned, mounted and started on my SU122s and 152s and I hope to rebase my T34/85s to the club standard of 20 by 40mm bases before adding the finishing touches. Given my limited available time this is looking more and more ambitious every day...

The other project, my "finish 100 points of SM each month" challenge is progressing slightly better. But that is the result of looking up points values in the latest edition of the codex. I was working with my 4th edition copy to get a rough idea of what I would need to paint, but checking the latest edition I found that the costs have gone up for infantry while vehicles are now slightly cheaper.

This meant that my force commander, a lowly captain, has gone from 65 to 100 points. January goal reached! And with a five man squad jumping from 75 to 90 points all I have to do is finish the weapons and backpacks of the four troopers (the sergeant is finished) in the second row to meet this month's deadline.

All I have to do this, is next weekend and one day off work next week. And then it's off to Reihndahlen for "Action 2010"....

Ctrl-Alt-Del: the Day after Crisis

What better time to restart this blog than what is to me the watershed moment of the gaming year: the Crisis show by the Tin Soldiers of Ant...
